Watercolour Stamping Birthday Card

Welcome back, crafty friends! Today I have the first of two different cards (using the same stamp) to create an easy watercolor-look background.

Watercolour background using Mama Elephant Brush Strokes stamp set & Distress Inks. Cheerful birthday card features Lawn Fawn Bicycle Built for You coloured with Copic markers.

All supplies are listed at the end of this post and compensated affiliate links are used when possible.

To create the background, I used Mama Elephant’s Brush Strokes stamp set and Picked Raspberry and Wilted Lilac Distress Inks. I used my Misti to line up my watercolour card so the stripes covered the entire length of the panel. I don’t know about you but I love the look of watercolour, however, I am not flexible enough to go with the flow (so to speak) and that’s why I love this technique. It keeps the flow under control. First I inked my stamp with Picked Raspberry and stamped onto my watercolour paper. Then I used a brush with

First I inked my stamp with Picked Raspberry and stamped onto my watercolour paper. Then I used a brush with clean water going over the stamped image to get the colour moving. I pressed a bit of Wilted Violet onto my glass cutting mat and added a bit of water. Using the brush, I grabbed a bit of colour and added it to the already wet stripes to give it a nice blend in random areas for a natural, looser watercolour look. After getting the background stamped and “watercolored”, I pressed a few shades of Distress Inks (and black watercolour paint) onto my glass mat and used a small paintbrush to add water spots to the entire background. I left that to air dry while I got started on the rest of the card.

I stamped out all the images I needed in Memento Tuxedo Black ink so I could colour them in with my Copic markers. After they were coloured, I added Wink of Stella to parts of the bike and to the balloons. Then I went over that with Glossy Accents (as well as to the bottle of wine) to give them an authenticly shiny look. I just love how much more intense the glitter seems once it’s got Glossy Accents over top! 🙂

To create the topper, I used My Favorite Things Inside/Out Double Stitch Die and watercoloured using Twisted Citron & Squeezed Lemonade to create an ombre-like watercolour background. I used my gel pen to highlight the stitching around the oval and added a touch of Copic marker for shading.

One of my crafty goals for this year is to make multiples of each card I make so that I can expand my personal stash of cards as well as practice and master new techniques! 🙂 So, I made a few green backgrounds also and will be sharing that post with you in a few days.

I’m submitting this card to Seven Hills Crafts Monthly Craft Challenge and Lawn Fawnatics Challenge #5 Spring Inspiration Board.

See y’all next time!
