Hello crafty friends! Today I have an interactive gatefold card using techniques I learned in day 1 on Online Card Classes Wild Card class. I know I’ve posted my homework out of order – that’s because I did it out of order!
This card took a few hours to make, but most of that time was figuring out logistics and what I wanted to do design-wise. This is a good card to give to boys and men (which we all know are hard to do!) as well as children and anyone else who loves a good pun. 🙂
I used two card bases overlapped to create the gatefold. I cut the two card fronts in half so they would line up. Before I adhered the two cards together, I used low-tack tape to hold the fronts together so I could do the mountain die cut. I made sure my cutting plate wasn’t covering any area I didn’t want to cut – and only cut it about halfway and then I turned it around and did the same to the other side to ensure I didn’t over cut the other side. One thing I learned from making this card is that I should have gone ahead and cut the mountains for the inside at this time too. But, I didn’t even think about the inside of the card until I completed the front (so, several hours after the fact!)
I stamped the Big Foot and party hat from Lawn Fawn’s Lovable Legends stamp set. I coloured in with Copic markers and hand cut them out as I don’t have the matching dies for this set. I also stamped a few different balloons from Simon Says Stamp Cuddly Critters Accessories, coloured with Copics, and cut out with the matching die set. Next, I used my powder tool over the area on the card front where I wanted to put big foot’s cute little footprints. I then heat embossed using a clear embossing powder.
To finish up the front, I die cut two stitched ovals in green, and folded both of them in half and glued them to each side of the gatefold on the inside of the card. I then glued my big foot down on the right side only (so the card could still open!). After I stamped the sentiment, I cut it into a banner, then marked the places to make cuts into the ovals so I could use the banner to hold it closed.
For the inside, I stamped a matching sentiment from the Lovable Legends stamp set and added a few more heat embossed footprint to tie it all together! I also added a few footprints in a brown ink going up the back of the envelope to match.
Bye for now!
