Unicorns & Cake Pop-Up Card

Hello everyone! I’m back again today with my homework from day 3 of my Online Card Classes Wild Card class. Today we learned about creating pop-ups. Once again I am using a stamp and die set that I have had for a few months and just haven’t had a good reason to use it yet (but I had to buy it – I mean, who doesn’t love unicorns and rainbows??)

In my last post I said how I like making the labour intensive cards and this pop-up card definitely took some planning out… and a lot of trial and error. It’s my first attempt at doing a pop-up card and I had so much fun making it! I did ruin quite a bit of good cardstock because you can’t really practice this sort of thing on copy paper since its so thin.

First I got to work colouring my stamps images with my Copic markers. I loved getting to use such bright colours for this fairy tale scene! Of course I covered almost everything with a touch of Wink of Stella once I was done colouring. I also added a little heart to the flying unicorn’s backside with a sparkly purple gel pen and used a bit of glossy accents on the unicorns’ eyes and nose.

I cut some clouds from Lawn Fawn’s Puffy Cloud Borders dies and gave them a bit of shading with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink. To create the rainbow, I used My Favourite Things Stitched Rainbow die and cut it six times on different cardstock. Once they were cut, I used one stripe from each and used plain ‘ol clear tape on the back to hold the colours together.

Thank goodness I had the help of Lawn Fawn’s Everyday Pop-Up dies or else I would have gone crazy making this scene. I’m not going to lie, I made a total of FOUR (that’s right) card bases with the pop-ups before I found one that worked for what I wanted to do. It kept going wrong when I would create the cloud that covers the pop-up die cuts and the cloud wouldn’t fit under the die cut (and I really needed the height to cover the rest of the pop-ups. Needless to say I finally got it right -and I saved the other card bases as I might be able to use them for another card someday. I used a strong glue to keep everything in place and made sure to let it dry completely. I used a sentiment from the same stamp set and that was it!

Bye for now!
